Blind buying oud is uncomfortable.

Comprehensive Oud Descriptions:

Cultivated Aged 3+ Year Trat, Thailand - Rak Mai รากไม้

Origin: Thailand — Trat, Cultivated | Age: 3+ Years

Not all Trat's are the same.

Overripe apricot, soft and a little bruised, you know what I'm talking about. The kind that you can smell from your kitchen countertop. Tropical fruit trailing behind, green still clinging to the edges. Galangal cuts through, sharp and peppery. Kaffir lime lifts it, bright and citrus-green.

Some light florals drift in next, but this note isn't strong. Soft wood settles as well.

Base comes along with Mild resin, clean timber, nothing dark or heavy. This oud takes you to a coastal orchard at the edge of a gem town, fruit trees planted where the soil runs red with laterite, salt air drifting in off the river. It's the smell of somewhere easy, somewhere you would visit on vacation, no work or offices here. No ache, just be present, relax and you're good.

Top: Overripe apricot, tropical fruit, galangal, kaffir lime
Heart: Light floral, soft wood
Base: Mild resin, clean timber

Wild Aged 5+ Years Cambodian - Dara ដារា

Origin: Cambodian — Wild  |  Age: 5+ Years

Fruity, nectarines, figs, leathery, bark, hay. Alive... It reminds me of walking into deep jungle right after rain, when the ground's still soft and everything smells like it's growing. Heavy air. A little dangerous in a good way.

There's also something of an old spice market in the oud. You know, sacks of dried tamarind piled up, black pepper dust in the air, ever so slight. Smell that gets into your clothes and doesn't leave. Underneath that you get the raisins, dried, like it has left out in the sun too long.

There are some slight animalic bits, but ever so. So light that it won't turn away oud novices. But enough so that there's this ferality to the oil. It develops when on the skin. Watch how it morphs into something else. Something wild. ;)

Top Nectarine, fig, leathery bark.

Heart Tamarind, black pepper, hay.

Base Raisin, barn, animalic wink.

Wild Aged 6+ years Tarakan, Indonesia - Kabus (کابوس)

Origin: Indonesia — Tarakan, Wild  |  Longevity: 8+ hours

Indonesian Tarakan oud has a reputation built on smoke and leather, and the Tarakan Wild delivers both. Dark chocolate, raw wood, and a leathery darkness that is full and assured. No barn. A slight sweetness coming through to compliment the other notes. Distilled Pre-Covid.

The base is warm amber, smoke, and deep resin that will remain on your skin.

Top: Dark chocolate, raw wood  |  Heart: Leather, dense wood, dark spice  |  Base: Warm amber, smoke, deep resin

Wild Aged 20+ Years West Malaysian - Belantara (بلنتارا)

Origin: Malaysia — Peninsular West, Wild | Longevity: 8+ hours

West Malaysian oud is the understated one, easy to overlook until you've worn it enough to miss it. This oil opens with cool, clean wood and a faint green lift, composed from the first moment. Aged 20+ Years.

The heart settles into dry wood with a thread of mild leather and a soft, barely-there floral.

The dry-down is clean resin with a subtle amber warmth and a whisper of smoke. Stable. A strong reference for the Malaysian chapter of any collection.

Aged 20+ years after distillation. The years morphs the scent into some mysterious, almost un-graspable. Wild-harvested Peninsular Malaysian, very refined. Crowd favorite by far.

Top: Cool wood, clean green | Heart: Dry wood, mild leather, light floral | Base: Clean resin, subtle amber, faint smoke

Wild Aged 1+ Year Khao Yai - Nam Fon (น้ำฝน)

Origin: Khao Yai, Thailand - Wild | Age: 1+ Year

Sugar first. It's airy and there's some sort of lift. The silage is good, but it also feels lightweight at the same time. Very nuanced oud. One of those ouds that I really struggle to describe, because it's very unlike most ouds on the market. Intriguing.

There's this smell that reminds me of rain, fresh rain. That feeling of looking out through the window with the raindrops on the glass. Relatively heavy rain, not to the extent of a storm, but enough to feel cozy indoors.

It's got some fresh timber, teak, pale. White wood. That fresh cut wood smell. Powdery sweetness settles in and mixes with some light florals drifting around. A little fruity as well, longan, dates, mangosteen. Simply Wonderful.

Top: Airy sugar, fresh rain, lift

Heart: Fresh-cut timber, pale teak, white wood

Base: Powdery sweetness, light florals, soft resin

Wild Aged 20+ Years Prachinburi - Pa Boran (ป่าโบราณ)

Origin: Thailand — Prachinburi, Wild | Age: 20+ Years

Palm sugar forward, dark and sticky. Tamarind right behind it, tangy-sweet, enrapturing. Lemongrass threading through, bruised perfectly (If you have crushed lemongrass, you know the feeling). Honeyed tobacco, slow and warm, and jackfruit rounding it out, ripe, heavy, sweet in that tropical way.

Then star anise comes next, a little medicinal, a little warm, but very very slight. Dried longan alongside it. Green mango emerges, sour-sharp, before it settles into fresh teak, Dry bark. Tree sap, a little unexpected, a little sticky. I mean this is rubber country after all, and this oud won't let you forget where it's from, haha.

Loud, Alive. Absolutely intoxicating.

Top: Palm sugar, tamarind, lemongrass
Heart: Star anise, dried longan, green mango
Base: Fresh teak, dry bark, tree sap, menthol

Reviews

"it opens with a note i love- a kind of very thick sandalwoody oud cinnamon quality, it becomes intoxicatingly rounded and sweeter for the first thirty minutes. then in the mid it moves more towards a resinous and slightly bitter quality. the cinnamon remains and is joined by coffee, leather and a slight berry note. it’s very nice." - Slater (Ouddict.com), USA

Wild Aged Myanmar (Burmese) Oud - Shay Haung Phaya ရွေးဟောင်း ဘုရား

Origin: Myanmar (Burma), Wild | Age: 10+ Years

Village pagoda right out the gate. That smell of a pagoda that's stood at the edge of town for generations, incense burning for decades has soaked into the stone. Dark resin, myrrh, sweet memories of childhood in south east Asia.

Quickly behind it, a subtle sweetness. Oak wood too, not fruity sweet, more like woody sweet, like the wood itself has a little sugar baked in. Aged rosewood settles in alongside.

Saddle leather comes through, worn in, the kind that's been sitting for years, not fresh from the tanner. Camphor lifts it, faint, medicinal. Just enough to clear your head.

This oud takes you to an old house by the riverside, stone steps in its garden worn smooth by centuries of bare feet. Damp cellar, old pebbles underneath, cold to the touch even in your imagination. It's got that feeling of returning somewhere after years away, a little unsure of what you'll find, and finding it exactly as it was.

Top: Village pagoda, dark resin, Subtle sweetness
Heart: Oak wood, aged rosewood, Saddle leather
Base: Cellar, pebbles, camphor

Wild Aged 10+ Years Merauke - Hutan Purba هوتن ڤوربا

Origin: Indonesia — Merauke, Papua, Wild  |  Age: 10+ Years

(Language used in the title is Jawi, not Arabic)

Grassy sweetness is what comes to mind. Forest floor, moist soil. Fresh leaves blowing in the wind. Who doesn't love the notes of fresh cut grass. Imagine walking on the forest floor after a summer storm, with the sun coming back through the canopy.

Don't underestimate the sweetness. It's light, but it's present, a little bit of golden-brown sugar crystals. This oud isn't exactly sweet in the fruity sense like some of my other ouds. It's sweet in the gourmand vanilla + sugar sense. But still less vanilla and more sugar.

There is a very nice smokey note. Many ouds have smokey notes that are a little bit burnt. I'm not a fan of those, and I doubt many people are. This Merauke has as beautiful balance of smoke along with the earthiness. Crisp dry Logs in the forest, beside a warm cozy campfire.

This oud is grounded, and slow. It's got calm written all over it. Gives me an ache, yearning for a few months in the countryside. It's comfortable and secure. It'll give you bittersweet feelings, a longing for a time and place that you can't quite put your finger on.

Top: Fresh cut grass, leaves in wind, Cold stone

Heart: Forest floor, wet soil, golden sugar sweetness

Base: Dry logs, campfire smoke, earthy calm

Wild Aged 18+ Years West Malaysian - Senja سنجا

Origin: West Malaysia, Wild | Age: 18+ Years

Opens ethereal, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Green, the classic earth and forest floor. Slight smoke somewhere behind that, but rest assured the smokiness isn't too overpowering.

Sweetness is present as well, a little like honey, some apple notes. Woody base is quite solid as well. Definitely woody. It's resinous, creamy, but ever so slightly. There's notes of salt as well(interestingly). Forest floor hits hard with this one.

I had a hard time describing this one. It smelled similar to the very first west Malaysian that I launched, but it's also slightly different. It's more airy and elusive. If that one was a tree trunk, this oud would be the branches. Delicate and soft.

This oud feels like it's running and standing still at the same time.

Top
Resinous, Green, sweet

Heart
Creamy, Apple, Woody

Base
Temple Smoke, Wood, Airy

Really good quality oud and at this price point! I love the exploration set, I’d recommend it to anyone trying to learn the difference between different oud profiles and denominations

Oud Discovery Set - (Early-Supporter Price + Free Ouds)

I cant possible review all of them so ill review the first one i tried. The Oud Trader - Wild Aged 20+ years Prachinburri - Pa Boran (sample) I just got back from a trip and was opening my sweet packages. Upon opening TOT’s box this one fell out and broke the outer glass but not the v-vial. So I was able to sample it. TOT send the oud in a very crude manner. Small box bursting with bottles in bahamas-style bags trying to breathe through the bubble wrap. It’s a little messy - but as I said, crude. I love it. It has that Prachin watery ozonic coupled with melon 🍈 note along with the scent of aged smoked dates. Absolutely beautiful smell coming off of this oud. It’s different than other prachins in that it’s medium bodied, and a little bit more purple notes comes along with it. It’s a multi-faceted oud which is definitely not linear. It’s slightly medicinal but aged well enough to remain dark and rich. After being without oud for 5 days this certainly made me happy and jubilant.

Oud Discovery Set - (Early-Supporter Price + Free Ouds)

Wow, what an incredible job you’ve done collecting these oud oils! They all look exceptionally clean, and the way you’ve described each one is absolutely spot on. It’s obvious you’ve put a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience, and passion into this collection. Truly impressive—one of the finest and most thoughtfully presented oud collections I’ve seen.

Curated Discovery Set - The Oud Trader

The packaging and presentation of these ouds were surprisingly good, especially for a discovery set. The ouds themselves were of great qualities. I believe anyone really interested in oud should at least give themselves a chance to experience the quality and A+ olfactive treat.

Customer photo review of Tarakan Wild - Distilled Pre-covid (Low Stock)

A smooth and dry camphor note I enjoy is present in the opening, followed by powdery, smokey resins. Next there is a pleasant combo of molasses and subtle damp earth, herbs and spices, and dark, sweet but dry, balsamic woodiness. Ibrahim was very helpful and generous with this order, including a good size sample of another oil as well as a nice leather travel pouch.

Tarakan Wild - Distilled Pre-covid (Low Stock)

I first heard of the Oud Trader on Ouddict and just heard good things in the forum, so i decided to order one gram of two of their selections without sample nothing. And yes this was one! A really unique and quite an hypnotic opening and development of this Takaran definitely a profound experience to be thankful for.

Customer photo review of Oud Discovery Set (6 Oils)

As someone who collects natural oud and is always looking for quality oils, I’m selective about where I buy. I recently bought one of The Oud Trader’s sample sets and was genuinely impressed. The quality was outstanding throughout. My favourites were the smooth, resinous West Malaysian and the darker, earthy Merauke—both were so good I ordered 3ml of each. Customer service was excellent, with fast, helpful communication. He also kindly included two Cambodian oud samples and some African sandalwood to try. The sandalwood wasn’t the longest-lasting on my skin, but its beautiful, creamy aroma convinced me to buy some anyway. Everything was well packaged and arrived promptly in the UK. It’s clear he’s passionate about natural oud and genuinely cares about helping customers find oils they’ll enjoy. I’ll definitely be buying from him again.

I recently tried all six oil samples, and I have to say they are amazing! From the very first sniff, it's clear that the quality is exceptional. The rich, authentic oud fragrance truly stands out, and the sandalwood smell is simply amazing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for top-notch oud oils!

Customer photo review of Oud Discovery Set (6 Oils) - [Early-Supporter Price]

My Oud Trader sample set arrived all the way from Singapore and I’m genuinely impressed. What stood out most is that these aren’t the typical barnyard, challenging ouds people often expect. Each one feels refined, wearable and incredibly nuanced, evolving beautifully on the skin throughout the day. The quality is undeniable, a little goes a very long way, and every oil tells a different story. My husband loved them all. If you’ve been curious about real oud but feel intimidated by it, The Oud Trader might just change your perception completely.

Oud Discovery Set (6 Oils) - [Early-Supporter Price]

Rarely does a cambodi surprise you anymore, so often we see different shades of cambodi but all in all it still comes down to that - a cambodi. This oud from brother Ibrahim went above and beyond what I expected. It has that golden resinous cambodi character, but with a backbone that makes it stand tall. Something slightly primal, not barnyardy or animalic, but something old and almost primordial that holds that sweet golden resin up. Something powerful, something regal. When I smell it in the air it brings a smile to myself, something so calming and almost holy-like, a truly beautiful oud from an outstanding brother. The sillage is beautiful, not overpowering but something that will have you chasing the smell throughout the day, as if it taunts you to follow it along throughout the day. It silently hovers in a room, not overpowering or cloying at all, but regal and self-assured in the most modest of ways. An absolute beauty, I cannot recommend this enough (I especially recommend having someone else wear it around you so you can see how it blooms as a bystander).

Cambodian Wild - Aged 18/19+ years

the west malaysian, right off the application, it smelled so clean. i guess thats the cool wood scent. 5 mins in, i could smell what the description said as "light floral". this is my fav part, i have a thing for floral scents. much later the smell settles to a smokey, warm amber scent. takaran initial application was similar to but not as sharp as west malaysian. 5mins in, it's a much heavier wood scent, and settles to the similar smokey, warm amber scent. southern thailand was very sharp from the start. which is probably the initial ripe fruit "burst". super strong for me. like cold water in the morning. 5mins in it's a clean floral scent and much later settles to a really nice and light spice lingering scent. 5stars for all 3

West Malaysian Wild - (Oud Oil)

Alhamdulillah, I just received the order, the delivery. Mashallah, the Maroke oud really, really smells very, very good. I didn't know this kind of smell existed, you know? Yeah, maybe because, you know, I just ventured into the world of ouds, right? So currently, I rate this as the best oud in my collection right now. And I'm really, really, very happy. Brother, on this Arafah day, at this time, at this hour, I pray that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless your family and also your business with lots of barakah and may your business grow, prosper with every barakah with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Amin, amin, Rabbil Alamin.

Merauke Wild - (Oud Oil)

Just wanted to pray for isyak just now and applied the indonesian tarakan. SubhaAllah! The beauty of the oud. Consistency is super sticky. And so much depth in it. The scent’s sweetness balances so nicely throughout. I was assuming how much more can you get from an Indonesian oud. It should be the same as most. But wow, the harmony from start to finish. First time receiving something so elegant from a dark strong spectrum of oud. Topped the list of samples you gave me. Definitely strong contender to be a staple for me

Customer photo review of Oud Chips - Premium Discovery Set

Got the premium sample set of oud chips since I’ve been looking for good oud. Smells great, and beyond that customer service was excellent. Seller advised the best way to burn the oud and is knowledgeable in his trade. He included some other samples as well which was a pleasant surprise! Very helpful and willing to answer any questions. Great experience buying from The Oud Trader 👍

Oud Chips - Premium Discovery Set

Customer photo review of Oud Chips - Premium Discovery Set

Great quality oud. I really enjoyed Thai Trat Oud. It has a rich, woody scent that feels warm and smooth without being too overpowering. The oud smells natural, more on the elegant side. Also tried the Indian assam. Rich and deep, it has that classic strong oud character. Great for anyone who loves bold, traditional oud.

Oud Chips - Premium Discovery Set

Picked up the Budget Discovery Set from The Oud Trader not really knowing what direction of oud I would lean towards, but this set turned out to be a proper introduction to the world of pure oils. Each vial felt distinct and intentional. The Tarakan Wild carried that dark leathery smoke that lingers quietly throughout the day, while the Thai Trat opened beautifully with spicy florals and a refined resinous warmth that kept returning in soft waves. Even the smoother plantation profile and the creamy sandalwood helped round out the experience without feeling repetitive. What I appreciated most was how wearable and approachable the set was. Nothing felt harsh or overly challenging, yet each oil still had enough character to make me pause and pay attention. You can genuinely smell the difference in origin and style. This set didn’t just let me sample oud — it made me understand why people fall in love with it. Very satisfied with the purchase, and honestly, it left me looking forward to exploring the deeper and more complex offerings from The Oud Trader next.

Oud Oils - Budget Discovery Set

Customer photo review of Indonesian Tarakan Wild - (Oud Oil)

Recently spent some time with oud oils from The Oud Trader, and each one carries a very distinct character. The Malaysian oud comes across rich and grounded, with a smooth depth that feels almost smokeless. It isn’t overly sweet or honeyed, instead, it leans into a fuller, more composed profile that feels present without being overpowering. The Tarakan is deeper and more assertive, with a darker woody character that carries a natural richness. The Hainan stood out the most to me. It leans toward a tea-like, slightly herbal profile, with just a subtle hint of honey in the background. There’s something very calming about it, and it feels especially approachable. Even for someone new to oud. I found myself returning to this one the most.
